About Us

United Hatzalah (Hebrew for Rescue) is the only nationally recognised emergency medical service delivered entirely by trained volunteer medics in Israel. With an average response time of 3 minutes or less, our mission is to provide immediate lifesaving medical intervention during the critical window between the onset of an emergency and the arrival of traditional ambulance assistance.
Our services are always free of charge and serve all citizens of Israel regardless of religion, ethnicity or nationality. United Hatzalah medics are recognised for speed. Our ability to be at the scene of an emergency call in under three minutes across Israel is an international record.
This has not changed despite the challenges of the pandemic. Our dedicated volunteer medics never stopped their vital work. They ran out of their homes and even jumped out of their beds during lockdown periods and beyond to respond to medical emergencies and supported the launch of pandemic specific services to ensure those in Israel were in the best possible position to survive.

On an average day, United Hatzalah volunteers respond to 1,800 calls. These include:

Road accidents

Birth emergencies

Head injuries

Severe injuries

Light injuries

Cardiac and CPR callouts

External burns

Unconscious patients

The impact of these individual acts of lifesaving and medical support each day not only helps those who directly receive it but also has ramifications upon the thousands of people whose family members are helped by our volunteers. And all at no cost to those we help.
