This year may feel different from those that came before, but as Passover 5786 approaches, the ritual sale of chametz continues without interruption. In keeping with longstanding tradition, United Hatzalah Founder and President Eli Beer met with Israel’s Chief Rabbis, both Ashkenazi and Sephardic, to carry out the sale of the organization’s chametz in accordance with Jewish law.
At United Hatzalah’s headquarters in Jerusalem, Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rishon LeTzion Rabbi David Yosef, and Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Rabbi Kalman Ber presided over the formal acquisition process and signed the bill of sale.
Each year, in the days leading up to Passover, all chametz belonging to the organization’s headquarters, its national logistics center, and approximately one hundred branches and facilities across Israel, from north to south, is formally sold.
Following the ceremony, the Chief Rabbis offered their blessings to United Hatzalah’s thousands of volunteers nationwide, praising their unwavering commitment to saving lives, particularly during this challenging period, and wishing them a kosher and joyous Passover.
United Hatzalah emphasized that alongside its extensive operational preparations for the holiday, including reinforcing emergency response teams and deploying medical personnel throughout the country, it remains equally committed to upholding Jewish tradition and halachic practice. This dual commitment ensures that volunteers can continue their lifesaving mission at the highest standard throughout the Passover holiday.
