United Hatzalah is Israel’s only nationwide, fully-volunteer emergency
medical service (EMS) and our mission is to save lives, 24/7. We train
and equip ordinary citizens so they can provide free on-scene medical
treatment to anyone in need during the critical window of time
between the onset of the crisis and arrival of traditional ambulance
assistance. With our unique dispatch technology, innovative rapid
response vehicles, and community-based volunteer network, our
average response time is under three minutes and as low as 90 seconds
in metropolitan areas ― making us the fastest EMS in the world.
Individuals who are severely paralyzed, terminally ill, or require mechanical ventilation to breathe are sadly
often unable to fulfill their dreams due to immobility and dependence on advanced medical equipment.
Attending events as significant as the wedding or graduation of a child, or as simple as a concert or trip to the
beach, is impossible without spending large sums on private ambulance transport services. For most Israelis,
the prohibitive cost means that their bed-bound loved ones regularly miss out on quality-of-life experiences
that the rest of us take for granted. This intensifies feelings of isolation and depression, sometimes further
complicating medical conditions. For terminally ill patients, they will never have another opportunity to do
these things.
United Hatzalah’s Dream Ambulance will be designed and equipped to transport immobile and ventilatordependent
patients, free of charge. This will democratize ambulance transport and services for ill and injured
Israelis by removing financial constraints so that more citizens are better served. Staffed by medics, the vehicle
will carry advanced medical equipment including a defibrillator to ensure medical care is provided when
needed.
