On Shabbat morning of October 7th, the world woke up to the incomprehensible: Hamas terrorists crossed Israel’s border and infiltrated southern towns, where they killed 1,400 people, took 242 people hostage and injured thousands. At the same time, Hamas launched a barrage of rockets into Israel. This barbaric attack on innocent civilians is the worst single massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. United Hatzalah—the world’s fastest volunteer emergency response network—was on the scene in minutes. Our medics were trained for it. United Hatzalah is renowned for responding to over 2,000 calls every day with volunteer medics who arrive at the emergency site within 3 minutes, in every corner of Israel. But this was different. In normal times, most calls aren’t severe trauma. This was all trauma. Yet each medic had only a limited supply of life-saving equipment and supplies. During the first two days of this war, United Hatzalah used up nearly 90% of its annual stockpile. Israel needs your urgent support. United Hatzalah Canada, along with our partners worldwide, has launched an emergency fundraising campaign to equip our volunteer medics so they can provide immediate life-saving support. So far, United Hatzalah supporters around the world have raised $38 million. Here in Canada, we've set a goal to raise $6 million to equip our 7,000 volunteer medics with protective vests and helmets, oxygen tanks, defibrillators, trauma medical kits and transport vehicles. These equipment can be ordered and delivered immediately to ensure that our volunteer medics on the front lines have everything they need to respond to the ongoing attacks. The time is now.
