On a recent Monday evening, United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Menachem Slovatizky experienced a whirlwind of life’s most critical moments when he participated in the delivery of two babies and the resuscitation of one woman, all within the span of just two hours.
It began in Kiryat Ono, where Slovatizky was dispatched to the home of a woman who had unexpectedly begun to deliver her baby. He arrived shortly after the birth and assisted the medical team in providing immediate care for the newborn girl and her mother.
Soon after, his communications device alerted him to a second emergency—this one in nearby Givat Shmuel. A woman in her 70s had collapsed and was found pulseless and unresponsive. Slebotitsky joined other responders in performing CPR, and after several minutes of coordinated efforts, including chest compressions and assisted ventilation, the team successfully restored her pulse. She was then transported to the hospital for further care.
Barely catching his breath, Slovatizky raced to a third call in the neighboring city of Bnei Brak, where a woman was in active labor. Upon arrival, he delivered a newborn boy who initially appeared limp and slightly blue. Slebotitsky quickly intervened, stimulating the baby, providing oxygen, and monitoring him closely. The baby responded well and soon began to cry.
“A girl, a successful resuscitation, and then a boy,” Slovatizky reflected. “I have been a volunteer EMT for 17 years, but I don’t think I’ve ever responded to as many fateful emergencies in such a short amount of time. I will remember this forever.”
