On Monday, October 27, 2025, at night, United Hatzalah volunteers from the Ma’alot responded to the scene of a serious incident where a local resident, Mr. Amiram Dvir, was accidentally struck by a stray bullet while out exercising near Lake Monfort.
Daniel Malka, Deputy Head of the Ma’alot and Western Galilee branch, who lives adjacent to the lake, reported hearing a burst of gunfire in the evening hours of Monday night. “I was home relaxing without any shoes on when I heard the shots. Moments later, I received a call from United Hatzalah’s dispatch system indicating a possible severely injured person in the lake area. So, I put on my shoes and ran out immediately,” said Malka. He was shortly joined by Eyal Marom, Head of the branch, and two additional United Hatzalah volunteers.
“At first, we were unable to locate the injured man, but after searching the area we found him.” Amiram Dvir reported to the medics that he was out exercising when he felt a sting in the back of his neck. Unable to remove what hit him, Dvir asked a passerby what was there. According to Dvir, “the person said, ‘you have a bullet lodged in your neck,’.”
Volunteer medics applied bandages to stabilize the wound and prevent further damage before transporting him by United Hatzalah ambulance to the local hospital in Nahariya.
“We didn’t know exactly what was going on,” Malka recalls. “Being from the north we are used to national security incidents. We just knew that we had to act safely and quickly. It is truly a miracle that Amiram literally walked away from this event with just a small surface wound,” Malka added.
The Dvir family are no strangers to the important work of United Hatzalah. Amiram Dvir’s son-in-law serves as the regional paramedic for the United Hatzalah Ma’alot and Western Galilee branch.
“Our strength is that United Hatzalah volunteers are part of the communities where they serve,” states the Founder and President of United Hatzalah Eli Beer. “We are here to help both strangers as well as family and friends, by providing life-saving emergency medical care, quickly and free of charge. This is our mission.”
