Two weeks ago, Shimshon Shaharbani was seriously injured in a car accident that took place close to the Holot Interchange on Highway 4.

On Sunday, the United Hatzalah volunteers who responded to the incident and saved his life, paramedic Tal Fleks, and EMT Dor Fridman, came to visit him at Assuta hospital in Ashdod.

During the course of the visit, Dor and Tal recounted to Shimshon what happened when the accident occurred. “We were in a United Hatzalah ambulance on our way back to Ashdod from central Israel when we saw a car and a truck that had stopped on the left-hand side of the road with their hazard lights on. We stopped behind them in order to check if there had been an accident, but we understood that the car had only gotten stuck. We started looking for cables in order to jumpstart the car when suddenly we heard a very loud sound and saw that an accident had just occurred.”

“You and another man were seriously injured,” Dor told Shimshon. “I immediately applied a tourniquet in order to stop the bleeding and called for additional responders to be sent as well as an intensive care ambulance.

Tal then added: “In the meanwhile, I treated the second man who was also seriously injured until more ambulances arrived and transported you to the hospital.”

After the duo recounted the dramatic events to Shimshon he told them  “I’m so glad to see you, I had been looking for you. You have helped me fill in the blanks about how the accident happened. You saved my life with that tourniquet, you were at the right place at the right time. I don’t have enough words to thank you and I will never forget you and the kindness you did for me.”
