United Hatzalah conducted a major Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill last week involving dozens of United Hatzalah First Responders, IDF soldiers and officers, Israel Police, Fire and Rescue Services, local security teams and residents of southern Israel. The drill was designed by United Hatzalah to train and strengthen the emergency preparedness across the Gaza Envelope region.
The large-scale MCI drill brought together United Hatzalah doctors, paramedics, EMTs, commanders, dispatchers and specialized response units for a coordinated training exercise simulating a complex emergency scenario. The drill focused on rapid response, scene management, triage, evacuation, communication between agencies and the integration of both medical and emotional care during a mass casualty event.
For United Hatzalah, the drill was more than an operational exercise. It took place in an area still deeply marked by the October 7 massacre, where many of the volunteers, soldiers, police officers, firefighters and local responders had themselves responded under fire nearly three years ago. Their return to the same region for renewed training carried both professional and emotional significance.

The exercise took the hard lessons learned on October 7th and over the past 978 days since and turned them into action as our volunteers prepare for the clear and present danger that still exists in the Middle East. United Hatzalah’s volunteer model depends on local first responders who live in the very communities they serve. In a crisis, they are often the first to arrive, providing lifesaving medical care in the critical minutes before additional forces can reach the scene.
During the drill, United Hatzalah’s specialized units played a central role. The Drone Unit supported situational awareness and search capabilities, while the K9 Unit trained for complex rescue scenarios. The Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit emphasized the importance of treating not only physical injuries, but also the emotional trauma that often accompanies terror attacks, rocket impacts and major emergencies.
As Israel faces continued threats from multiple fronts, including renewed regional escalation, United Hatzalah continues to invest in emergency preparedness throughout the country. The southern Israel MCI drill underscored the organization’s commitment to readiness, resilience and the protection of life.
