As soon as the first group of the United Hatzalah delegation progressed towards the border, they were able to assess the real needs on the ground.
They quickly got to work setting up triage medical centers and supply storage units to prepare for what would come next.
More than 150,000 refugees have crossed the Moldovan border so far. The majority of them were women and children. The young husbands were held back to fight and the elderly, who were stopped in their tracks, were Holocaust survivors who had already been through horrific tragedies.
Can you imagine?
The need has been alarming. We immediately shifted into gear at United Hatzalah headquarters in Jerusalem yesterday, preparing for this morning's second charter flight. We have successfully filled to capacity the aircraft with medical equipment for our field hospital in Moldova and other necessary supplies for the refugees such as food and hygiene products.
Our second delegation is already on their way to Ukraine, thanks to our partnership with El AL airlines!
The flight will then return to Israel with Israelis stuck in the region and then is expected to make a return trip with more equipment and bring back additional refugees. The State of Israel called for an emergency evacuation welcoming everyone back home.
And we are pioneering this effort with Operation Orange Wings.
We are so grateful for our donors who have supported our mission of saving lives. If you have not yet given, please do so now. We send strength to the people of Ukraine and the Jewish communities at this dire time of need.
Glory to Ukraine!

Many years ago, Papa Gelman fled Poland in search of a better future and to provide an inestimable gift to his community: education and values. Founded in 2006, United Hatzalah has grown to become the largest independent, non-profit, nationally recognized and fully-volunteer emergency medical services (EMS) organization in Israel, responding to over 2,000 emergency calls a day. United Hatzalah's 6,500 medics, paramedics, and doctors create a web of emergency first responders, each connected to a GPS-based dispatch system which, together with our innovative transportation solutions, provides lifesaving aid faster than any other EMS organization in the world, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
United Hatzalah has democratized access to emergency medical services by providing its services free of charge and has improved victim outcomes by getting first responders to the scene of an emergency three times faster than an ambulance. Our volunteers, spotted at every medical emergency, have been dubbed 'Angels in Orange' after their trademark orange vests.
