A new emergency response e-bike has been donated to United Hatzalah by the Schochet family of Canada in memory of Captain Daniel Peretz z”l, who fell while heroically defending Israel during Hamas’ October 7th attack.
Captain Peretz, 22, served as a platoon commander in the IDF’s 7th Armored Brigade’s 77th Battalion. Born in South Africa, he made aliyah with his family in 2014. His father, Rabbi Doron Peretz, serves as Chairman of World Mizrahi.
“After the events of October 7, I wanted to do something meaningful that would make a difference,” said Elli Schochet. “There is nothing more meaningful than helping to save lives, which was Daniel’s essence.”
The connection between the families traces back to South Africa, where Schochet and Rabbi Peretz attended the same school. This shared history made the memorial donation particularly meaningful.
When asked about choosing to donate the e-bike in memory of Peretz, Schochet reflected on the desire to carry on Daniel’s legacy of saving lives. “This e-bike will be a merit for Daniel and for all the people of Israel,” Schochet said. “There is nothing greater than saving lives, and I can’t think of anything more appropriate to carry on Daniel’s memory.”

United Hatzalah’s emergency response e-bikes play a crucial role in saving lives across Israel. These specialized bikes are equipped with full medical equipment and a defibrillator and allow volunteer EMTs to swiftly navigate through tight alleyways and walkways where standard vehicles can’t enter to reach patients in critical moments when every second counts.
To the EMT who will now be using the e-bike, Schochet said: “It’s a privilege to partner with you in your sacred mission of saving lives. I pray that you’ll mostly be called for joyous occasions like delivering babies, but should other emergencies arise, may you have the strength to care for all those in need.’”
