On Wednesday morning, while traveling on Highway One, a United Hatzalah volunteer EMT first responder received an emergency call alerting him to a burning vehicle just up the road from his location. Upon arriving at the scene the responder recognized that the passengers were disabled persons and unable to exit the vehicle on their own. The responder immediately began evacuating those inside the vehicle together with the vehicle’s driver. Seconds after the final passenger was evacuated to a safe distance from the burning vehicle, the vehicle exploded.
Thankfully no one was injured. Fire and rescue crews responded to the incident and worked feverishly to quench the flames.
Micha Shulem was the United Hatzalah EMT who responded to the emergency. Micha reported that “There is no doubt in my mind that this was a miracle. Had I not been in the area and managed to get all of the passengers safely away from the vehicle, this situation would have had fatalities. Mere seconds after the last passenger was evacuated the van went completely up in flames.”
