In honor of International Women’s Day, we recognize the incredible women of the Adele Sandberg Women’s Unit, who make a difference every day. One such woman is Chani Vaknin, a Rechovot resident, mother of four, and certified EMT. After United Hatzalah volunteers rushed to save her younger brother’s life, Chani was inspired to join the organization. Though her brother unfortunately passed away, their swift response and ongoing support motivated her to become a medic. Today, she balances her roles as a medic, psychotrauma counselor, and phlebotomist, all while managing her family’s grocery store.

Last week, Chani responded to an emergency when a seven-month-old baby suffered a severe anaphylactic reaction after eating tahini. With quick thinking, she administered an EpiPen, stabilizing the child within seconds. Chani then transported the baby to Kaplan Hospital for further care, ensuring the child’s safety.
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the dedication and bravery of women like Chani, who balance personal and professional responsibilities while making a profound impact on their communities.
