Last night, Caryin Gale, a volunteer EMT with United Hatzalah, helped deliver a baby in a home in Modi’in—exactly one year after helping to save countless lives in southern Israel on October 7th.

A year ago, Gale traveled south from Modi’in on the morning of that tragic day to provide medical assistance to victims of the massacre, accompanied by her husband, an ambulance driver for the organization. Witnessing horrific atrocities, they treated and evacuated dozens of wounded civilians and soldiers throughout the day in a United Hatzalah intensive care ambulance.

Yesterday evening, on the anniversary of those events, Gale attended a commemoration ceremony, going to bed with a heavy heart. Shortly after falling asleep, she was awakened by an alert on her communications device about a woman in labor. Responding quickly, she arrived at the home just in time to find a woman ready to give birth.

Drawing on her training and experience, Caryin assessed the situation and ensured the mother was comfortable while monitoring her vital signs. She helped the mother through the birthing process, and moments later, the sound of a newborn’s cry filled the room, heralding the arrival of a healthy baby boy. After ensuring the infant was stable, both mother and baby were transported to the hospital for further observation.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Caryin remarked, “I was so grateful after the challenging day I had yesterday to be part of a miracle. I feel like I was part of so many miracles last October 7th, and G-d has given me another one this year. May this year continue to be full of miracles.”
