Following last night’s defacement of the newly dedicated Ambucar in memory of our fallen United Hatzalah EMT, Ronit Elimelech, of blessed memory, in Ramat Beit Shemesh, United Hatzalah leadership has chosen to meet this senseless and shameless act of vandalism with renewed purpose and action. The emergency vehicle bearing Ronit’s image, vandalized by an extremist individual, has sent shockwaves throughout the organization and the broader United Hatzalah community.

It is difficult to comprehend. Not only the act itself, but what it represents.

Ronit was a symbol of kindness, courage, and selfless service. She lived a life defined by unity and compassion. She was committed to helping anyone in need, regardless of who they were or where they came from.

On Day 2 of Operation Roaring Lion, Ronit was killed in a direct missile strike in Beit Shemesh, alongside her mother and others, leaving behind a family, a community, and a network of volunteers still grappling with the loss.

The Ambucar dedicated following Ronit’s death by Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michal Herzog, together with Ronit’s family and fellow volunteers. It was meant to carry her legacy into the streets she once served.

And then, in a single act of vandalism, someone attempted to erase that memory.

But memory, when rooted in action, cannot be erased so easily.

At United Hatzalah, the response is instinctive. We respond.

We respond the same way Ronit did. By doing more. By performing acts of kindness. By turning adversity into action. That is what defined Ronit in her lifetime, and it is how we will continue to honor her.

In the wake of this incident, a new campaign has been launched to expand the very legacy that was targeted. A fundraising effort to purchase a 4X4 emergency ATV, designed to reach those in need across the challenging terrain of the Beit Shemesh region, adding critical capability to our fleet and be dedicated in Ronit’s memory.

More lives reached. More lives saved. Just as she would have wanted.

This is not only the United Hatzalah way. It is a profoundly Jewish response. We refuse to allow destruction to halt our mission.

Ronit’s image may have been defaced, but our purpose remains unchanged.
